Today tour of the lake
This is our RTTY station:
There is a lot of activity on the high bands, with strong signals, high rate and long openings. On 6m band we have almost 1000 QSOs, this is a good result after only 3 days. In the morning we move the antenna to JA, they come many.
We have 4 stations, the SSB one in a room and the RTTY/6m one in the next room, on the west side of the resort.
We have a spiderbeam antenna for the SSB station, a 2-elements for the RTTY station, a vertical antenna for 40m and 80m bands, a diamond rx-antenna and a vertical dipole for the 15m band that we use occasionally when an operator and one transceiver are free. Finally, we have a 3-elements quad for the 6m band.
The CW station is at the other side of the resort, approximately 80m away from the other one. For this station we use a spiderbeam antenna and the vertical for 40m and 80m bands. For the 160m band we are using an inverted-L antenna hanging from a tree branch about 18m high. We use a beverage antenna 170m long and one DHDL. Tonight we did a comparison: the DHDL is much better. Probably the soil is not good here, we are on a peninsula with three sides facing the water. We are close to the lake and many radials are in the water.
All the stations are connected via wireless to internet. The internet connection now runs well, after some initial trouble. Also the power is OK, despite of some initial black-out.
Till now, the higher bands are outstanding, thanks to the high solar flux. The 30m and 40m bands are as expected, in contrast to the 80m and 160m bands.
On 160 it's very hard, in the night we try to call many time but we have no answer. The noise is acceptable, it is not the problem. Our problem on 160 is the no answer and no signals. We are able to do something at our sunrise and at the beginning of the night. Tonight we worked some USA , and few EU.
The 80m band is even more strange. Tonight we worked a lot of JAs at their sunrise, then nothing. No signals from EU, just some russian. Today good activity at our sunrise, with a lot of West Coast. We worked the last station from West Coast when the sun was already high !
The last night we tried on 80m SSB, but no signals :-(
We discovered a good help from the diamond rx-antenna also on the higher bands, canceling a very boring local noise. We also use it on the higher bands to receive USA and JA at the same time, switching between the spiderbeam and the diamond rx-antenna.
